Sunset Boulevard is the story of Hollywood screenwriter Joe (William Holden) and the fall of silent-film actress Norma Desmond (Gloria Swanson). This movie is known as the greatest movie about Hollywood, and deserves it. Norma is a rich actress left alone after sound dominated the movie industry. It shows how enveloped stars can be into their lives. This is very true, because after sound could be in movies, many of the silent-film era stars were left out of work. Norma had dreams of conquering the screen once again, and would become obsessed with that dream. Joe is stuck in the middle of all of this mess when he stumbles on Norma's huge mansion to get away from repo men. He does a good job, but Gloria Swanson shows us one of the greatest performances of all time which should have earned her an Oscar that year. The number one scariest thing about this movie is that it showed the true horror of the film industry, which was sugar-coated in many movies before this one. It's a true classic and I give it a 3.5/5.
