127 Hours Review

127 Hours Review

127 Hours is based on the true story of Aron Ralston. Aron is a self-absorbed mountain climber whose hobby is biking and hiking through mountains located in Robber’s Roost, Utah. His story is when his right arm got trapped between a boulder and a wall. Ralston’s book based on the events is called Between a Rock and a Hard Place. When I first heard about that this movie was being made, I thought that there is no way you could make an “enjoyable” movie about a guy getting trapped in a canyon and chopping his arm off. I then heard Danny Boyle and James Franco would be involved in the movie. My expectations were set high. Danny Boyle is an English director who’s previous films include his Oscar-Winning movie Slumdog Millionaire, and 28 Days Later. James Franco’s portrayal as this ego-centric mountain climber who won’t even call back his family after countless voice messages is superb. He becomes extremely dehydrated and starts to see visions, which tell us about his past and future life. Danny Boyle also shows the process of amputating the arm with us left shocked but not vomiting. The main use of this scene is to show what great lengths Aron will go to when he sees a vision of his future son. The ending scene when he barely finds help is one of the best scenes I have ever seen in any movie. The movie is amazing and definitely one of the top three movies of 2010. I give it 4/5 stars and I believe James Franco as my favorite for Best Actor.
