Blue Valentine Review
Blue Valentine has gone through one of the most powerful journeys to becoming a movie. I have been looking forward to seeing it for about 6 months. The writer and director, Derek Cianfrance, has gone through hell and back again and again to make this movie. It has taken him over 10 years to fully finish it and find producers to back it. He even put the starts Michelle Williams (Brokeback Mountain, Dawson’s Creek) and Ryan Gosling (The Notebook, Remember the Titans) into a small house together with their “daughter” so they can try to really get into their roles. The movie is a modern portrayal of a common marriage. They have many bumpy roads along the way and people rarely make it through what they do. Dean (Gosling and Cindy(Williams) are a married couple trying to salvage their failing marriage in one night. It flashes back to the happy times of their courtship throughout the movie. Dean falls in love with Cindy right after she got pregnant from her then boyfriend, but still loves her unconditionally. It is a depressing but very true movie, which is unlike any “love” story ever made into a movie. They have further placed themselves as each of some of the most promising young actors in the industry. I give it 3.5/5 stars because of the powerful acting by the young stars. I also name it my favorite indie movie of the year.
